Ways to Eat Cheap in the Mornings at Disney
Breakfast in the land of the Mouse needn't bust your wallet for the day and I'll show you how to get a great breakfast on a budget at WDW.
You want to start the day with a hearty breakfast that will give you energy for all the walking that lies ahead but you don’t want to blow your whole day’s dining budget on the first meal of the day.
I totally understand and have several ways that you can do just that.
- Enjoy fresh baked goods. Most of the Disney resorts have fresh baked goods available in the mornings. A couple of croissants or muffin and a cup of coffee will set you back about $5 - $6, yet give you enough carbs to get you to lunch. My pick for best bakeries on property are the Boulangerie Patisserie at France in World Showcase at Epcot (the Napoleans are amazing) and the Boardwalk Bakery at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort (try a chocolate croissant or an apple turnover).
- Choose a buffet breakfast. While the character buffets are expensive, there are several other choices that will satisfy the heartiest of appetites. My favorite breakfast buffets, that offer the most variety for the lowest cost, are those at Boma (Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge - $16.99 per adult) and Trail’s End (Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort - $11.99 per adult). Boma features the best made-to-order omelettes I’ve found at Disney, an expansive variety of hot and cold entrees and authentic African dishes like quinoa and pap. Trail’s End features everything from Mickey-shaped waffles to sausage and biscuits, plus the regular assortment of eggs and breakfast meats. Children age 3-9 are $9.99 at Boma and $7.99 at Trail’s End.
- Or go for an all-you-can-eat dish. Hearty appetites will also appreciate these choices, which differ from a buffet in that you don’t have a variety of dishes to choose from, just one dish that they bring you until you say stop. My pick for the best and most filling are the breakfast platter at Spoodle’s (Disney’s Boardwalk Resort - $11.99 per adult) and the Canyon Skillet at Whispering Canyon Cafe (Disney’s Wilderness Lodge - $10.99 per adult). Both offer unlimited eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits, breakfast potatoes and more.
- Eat a brunch. Choose a buffet or all-you-can-eat dish (tips #2 and #3), but eat later in the morning, during the last seatings, which are usually around 10am – 10:30am. Then you can fill up enough to get you through to dinner without having to buy a lunch. You can also save a croissant, muffin or apple from the buffets to snack on for a light lunch mid-afternoon (just wrap in a napkin or kleenex and stick in a Ziploc bag you brought with you).
- Best breakfast bets for under $5. If money is tight, you can still have a good tasty breakfast on the cheap. Captain Cook’s Snack Company (Disney’s Polynesian Resort) serves Tonga Toast, which is banana-stuffed sourdough bread, battered, deep-fried and dusted with cinnamon and sugar, for $4.99. Over at Earl of Sandwich (Downtown Disney Marketplace), you can get an Egg, Bacon & Cheese or Ham and Cheese hot breakfast sandwich on fresh baked artisian bread for $4.95.
