Free Super Bowl XLIII Activities in TampaSave Money with These No Cost Things To Do During Your Visit
Enhance your trip to Tampa during Super Bowl XLIII with these free family-friendly events that celebrate the NFL spirit.
In a previous article Suite 101 offered up a slew of $20 or less Super Bowl XLIII events taking place during the week of the Big Game. Stretch your budget even further by attending the following free events that are suitable for all ages. Bud Bowl 2009Anheuser-Busch is holding its annual Bud Bowl event for two nights this year, at the Channelside Bay Plaza in St. Petersburg. The event will include the world famous Budweiser Clydesdales and a headliner concert each evening. January 30th, legendary rapper Snoop Dogg will hold court on the stage, and rockers 3 Doors Down take the stage the following night, January 31st. Admission to the event each night is completely free, but to attend the concerts, adult consumers 21 and older must have invitations, which can be obtained through Budweiser promotions in area bars, clubs and restaurants and through radio station giveaways. DirectTV's 3rd Annual Celebrity Beach BowlWatch Hollywood celebrities and NFL greats go head-to-head in this no-holds barred flag footbal game. The shindig kicks off at 1:30pm with a pre-game show and the game starts at 2:30pm. Team Superfan will be coached by quarterbacks Eli Manning (New York Giants) and Warren Moon (Seattle Seahawks). On the team will be celebrities like Kevin Dillon (Entourage), Christian Slater (My Own Worst Enemy), Blake Lively and Penn Badgley (Gossip Girl), Odette Yustman (The Unborn, Cloverfield), Dave Annable (Brothers & Sisters), Zach Gilford (Friday Night Lights), Brody Jenner and Frankie Delgado (The Hills, Bromance), Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian (Keeping up with the Kardashians), Playboy Playmates Jayde Nicole and Pilar Lastra. Their opponents, Team NFL Sunday Ticket, will be coached by Reggie Bush (New Orleans Saints) and Steve Young (San Francisco 49ers), and feature athletes like NFL greats Eddie George, Merril Hoge, Jamal Anderson, John Kidd and NASCAR's Kasey Kahne. The event winds up with a post-game performance by LL Cool J. It all takes place at the Progress Energy Park in St. Petersburg, Florida, just a short drive from Tampa, and will be broadcast live on DirectTV. Best of all, it's free to attend, though it's recommended to start lining up early to get in as last year's game had over 4,000 in attendance. ESPN the Magazine NEXT Day Tailgate PartyThis all-ages event features live matches all day from the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball team, the Red Bull Energy Drink Aerial Skydive Team, the Gibson Guitar bus, the official #14 Tony Stewart Old Spice car and food by Skipper’s Smokehouse. Live performances by Sean Kingston and American Idol finalist Michael Johns will cap off the day’s entertainment. This free event is being held at the ESPN VIP tent (202 South Morgan St, Tampa) on Saturday, January 31st, from noon until 5pm. It will get packed, so get there early. Tampa Bay Super Bowl Mood RingThis interactive 25 foot tall work of steel art, by local artists Will Pappenheimer and Chipp Jansen, features a massive 12 foot football on top of a partial ring-like base. Inside the structure is mood lighting that changes according to what visitors to the Lights On Tampa mood ring website choose. Visitors to that site can also view the mood ring via webcam. This is part of a temporary art exhibition dedicated to pro-football and is located at Cotanchobee Park (601 Old Water St, Tampa) through February 1st.
