It was funny... one trip when I was sprinting to the train (since they don't let you on the platform early like they do in Europe, so annoying), I heard another couple grumbling about how much better the rail system is in Europe. I told them I agreed!
It's a shame our rail system here isn't more affordable and user-friendly. It would make a nicer alternative if it were... and if it had more high-speed routes than just the overpriced Acela.

Yes, there (unless you are extremely rural), there are even bus systems for smaller cities. You can get almost anywhere, inexpensively by public transport.
